Short Description #
The HKUST Business and Management (B&M) program is our school-based admissions route and one of the most well-regarded and comprehensive business programs in Hong Kong. The program is designed to provide students with a broad foundation of knowledge and great flexibility in learning.
In the first three terms, students will be exposed to a wide variety of business and other foundational subjects to fully explore their interests before committing to one or more specialized area(s) of study during major selection exercises held twice a year.
Key Figures of Major Selection
- The School offers four Bachelor of Science (BSc) programs and eight Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) programs. [Program talk videos are available]
- Half or more of the planned major seats are reserved for B&M program students to enroll via the major selection exercises.
- In prior major selection exercises, about 90% of business students were admitted into their first or second choice major.

Double Major/Minor and Extended Major
The flexible curriculum structure allows students to customize their program combinations based on their interests, e.g. BBA (Marketing and Operations Management), BSc (Economics & Finance and Information Systems), etc.
In addition, students may take an additional 21 credits at the minimum to declare an extended major in either Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Digital Media and Creative Arts (DMCA) to further enrich their undergraduate studies.

- About 80% of business students completed their degrees with additional major(s) or minor(s).
- Students may pursue one or more of the 20+ minor programs offered by Business School and other academic units, for instance, Entrepreneurship, Humanities, Psychological and Behavioral Science, Robotics, etc.
- Over 50 major/minor combinations are offered to accommodate students’ needs and interests.
Global Exposure and Career Support
Close to 80% of business students have overseas learning experience from a range of global study programs, including semester-long exchange and short-term study programs. Our constantly expanding exchange network has about 140 world-renowned partners, providing 400 exchange-out places per year for business students.
HKUST Business School graduates are well-received by employers and top-notch institutions. On top of the University’s career support, our School’s career development team provides additional internship and graduate job opportunities, and professional training to business students.
Key Figures of Recent Graduate Placement
- 90% of graduates entered the job market, and the remaining 10% of graduates chose to pursue further studies.
- Over 90% of business students completed at least one internship during their undergraduate studies.
- Over 80% of graduates obtained the first job offer by July; over 70% of graduates received two or more job offers.
- Top employers include investments banks such as Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley; consulting firms such as McKinsey, IT giants such as Microsoft; “Big-4” accounting firms; and non-business sector such as HKSAR Government, etc.
- Further study destinations include Imperial College, London Business School, University College London, and University of Southern California, etc.
Remarks:
The Year 1 curricula of all Business programs are identical. Students interested in a specific business discipline may consider including both their preferred business program(s) and JS5300 Business & Management in the program choices. Those who would like to explore their program interest before deciding on their major(s) may consider choosing JS5300 Business & Management at admissions.
Selected Band A applicants who show talents and potentials for business study will be invited to engagement activities organized by HKUST Business School in May-Jun 2024.
Other than the above business programs, students in HKUST Business School may apply to pursue a Dual Degree or an interdisciplinary program upon completion of the first year of study:

- Non-Chinese speaking (NCS) students may use an alternative Chinese subject, an HKDSE Other Language subject, or an HKDSE Applied Learning Chinese subject to satisfy the University’s Chinese language requirement.
- The result(s) of Liberal Studies in previous sitting(s) will also be considered in HKUST General Entrance Requirement. Level 2 or above is required.
“Attained” level in Citizenship and Social Development and the result(s) of Liberal Studies will not be considered in the admissions score calculation. - The above subjects refer to Category A subjects.
- Grade C or above in Category C (Other Languages) subjects can count as Elective 2 (for some programs).
Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination
Once the minimum entrance requirements have been met, the best results achieved in all sittings will be used for calculating admissions scores.
